Intercultural competence
Understanding for other cultures

Our association “MultiKultiUA” was founded in 2009 by the Ukrainian journalist Oleg Roy and DAAD lecturer Martin Reuther in Kharkiv.

The association is working altruistically and is approved as nonprofit organization.

The base of the association is Kharkiv.

Our purposes:

  • Fostering of the cultural exchange between Kharkiv and other countries in Europe
  • Creation of a climate of confidence and cooperation
  • Positioning of Kharkiv as an international and cosmopolitan European city
  • Promotion of Kharkiv as a location of science, culture and economy abroad

Activities and projects:

As mentioned earlier, one of the main agendas of our association is to permanently increase the exchange between Ukraine with main focus on the city and the area of Kharkiv and other countries.
Exchange is communication.
Exchange is mobility.
There is no limit to communication and mobility.

Exchange of volunteers and interns
We put volunteers in contact with schools, universities (language assistants of DaF) and predominantly with social service providers such as soup kitchens, sheltered workshops for the disabled, orphanages, etc. These employments are possible both in long- and short-term (up to three months) fashion. Volunteers come here at their own expense or (partly or fully financed) within a scholarship program (EVS, FSJ, weltwärts, DAAD). Occasionally but gladly we also delegate volunteers from Ukraine to Germany and all European countries.

Placement of Ukrainian students in German summer jobs
Since last year our association acts as the official partner of the center for international professional exchange (ZAV, Bonn, Germany) of the Federal Employment Agency in Germany. For detailed information please check

Examination center TestDaF
Our association is the official test center for TestDaF and TestAS.
TestDaF is a language test acknowledged by all German colleges which, being a proof of language skills, entitles non-German students to study at German universities.
Besides Kharkiv there are another three test centers in Ukraine.
TestAS is an “IQ test for students” which is increasingly asked for by mostly technical colleges as an admittion for foreign students.

Parner Networking / Social Networking
We are eagerly interested in putting our partners in contact with potential cooperation partners. Hence we often guide delegations and initiative groups from abroad who come to Kharkiv, the number of visits of that sort has recently risen sharply.
Not long ago for instance we were able to connect the AstA of the Christian-Albrechts- Universität Kiel and the student union (so-called “Profsoyuz“) of the Polytechnical University Kharkiv HPI. This project is being supervised by our chairman Sergej. In November 2010 a delegation has been invited to Kiel, not long ago a delegation from Kiel was here with us in Kharkiv.

Furthermore we are highly interested in industrial relations, which can aim for stipulations for humanitarian aid, establishment of voluntary jobs and other projects.
Especially in this context we see ourselves as an “ignition network”, that means we establish the initial contact, supervise the process if necessary in the beginning and withdraw as soon as we see that the autonomy of the actors and the sustainability of the project are guaranteed.
In this context our “Arbeitsgruppe Schulaustausch” (work group school exchange) should not go unmentioned.

Organization of seminars and summer camps
Our association organizes seminars and trainings on relevant issues. Also, a big international summer camp in Krasnokutsk is scheduled for the summer. Next year we are going to host a big German-Ukrainian youth camp for firefighters.

Furthermore our association traditionally places language assistants to kids’ and youth camps of the society for international collaboration (GIZ), who on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Interior mentor the German minority in Ukraine.

Development of tourism in the rural area of Eastern Ukraine
Along with our partner the travel business MonteTravel we support local initiatives for the development of tourism. Eastern Ukraine is very scenic and due to the fact that it is not commercially exploited yet an insiders’ tip. We perform seminars and show both visitors from abroad and domestic visitors the most beautiful places in the areas of Kharkiv, Sumy and Poltava.

Euro 2012 (European Championships 2012)
Next year the European Championships will take place in Eastern Europe (Poland, Ukraine) for the first time. By various arrangements our association goes some way towards establishing sustainable synergies through this unique mega event.

Not long ago we realized a workshop in conjunction with the city council of Kharkiv, to which we had invited eight different experts from Germany (THW, firefighters, tourism, media, fan projects). The event, which was also attended by guests from Warsaw and Poznan, went down well with the public, even the Polish head of mission attended the opening in the great press hall of the “Metallist” stadium.

Further arrangements in this context are scheduled.

Project Partnership
In the near future we plan the extension of the contacts with European and international organizations, particularly with the Council of Europe, different programs of EU and UNO as well as the vocational education organization “Euroskills”.

We are looking forward to your stimuli and constructive criticism and we are always open for everything new that serves our common agenda: the exchange between cities, countries and regions in Europa that increases mobility and communication among people.
